Audio Enthusiasts – Miro from 16 Labs.

Miro is a valuable member of my Discord server and also really into electronics. One of the joys of this hobby is the fact we have people from all walks of life with various skills and talents, which is something really important when help is required to troubleshot problems the community might have.

1. Would you like to tell us a bit about yourself?

Well…I guess everyone has reason to get into audiophile hobby. In my case I love listening and tinkering. To be honest I started into audio when I was around 12 years old, it was then that I got my first headphones the Sennheiser PXC-300 which were like a gateway drug for me. The PXC-300 opened my mind to the fact music can sound good, so one thing led another and when I was around 15 years old I began doing DIY stuff, at first just some cable swapping or other things like that, slowly I began building a bunch of earbuds and a headphone amplifier. Most failed and couple of them were successful back then, forwarding to the present I now operate a small shop called 16 Labs, where am I building amplifiers, fixing headphones, sometimes doing sound engineering stuff and DJing.

2. What music do you enjoy and why?

I enjoy rock, grunge, punk, noise rock a bit of metal here and there and all kinds of electronics music. My love of rock, grunge and punk started when I was 5 years old, my dad introduced me to The scorpions, Soundgarden and Dio. I admit dad has a good taste in music and it affected how my own music taste and the electronic side of it began. Around 2011 a friend on Facebook send me a link to song from a producer called Subfocus and from that moment on I got pretty much hooked into electronic music, especially drum and bass, techno, breakbeat and IDM (intelligent Dance Music) so from that love of electronic music I began djing here and there.

3. Why are you enthusiastic about audio?

Well, like I said I enjoy the soul part of audio but I love even more the technical side of it and that’s what makes it more interesting and fun but that doesn’t mean I only enjoy audio from a technical point of view.

4. What audio gear do you use?

Mostly pro audio gear, but I do have a couple of consumer grade gear, like my Topping D10 and my Sennheiser PXC-300, when it comes to job I usually use my own made amplifier and a Samson SR850, at home I mostly use a Sennheiser HD280 with a O2 Amplifier and a D10.

5. What would be your perfect audio gear setup?

Endgame setup? Hmmm…I always wanted AKG Q701, Sennheiser HD25 or Audio-Technica R70x. I could do better in speaker department, a rack mounted audio interface and Class GB amp would be nice too.

6. What is your favorite format for audio and why?

Digital and cassettes, I love digital because how easy and portable it is to use, not mentioning it can easily be re-edited, as for why I love cassettes, it mostly comes from nostalgia feelings.

7. Would you like to share some photos of your audio gear?
